Let's Teach This Old Dog Some New Tricks

I have been making my living off of writing for about 5 years now. After I got my Bachelor’s degree in English Lit, there was nowhere to go but up. I was tired of writing what other people wanted me to write and I thought that getting out of school and taking on my own projects would be fulfilling. Instead of going up, I kinda just wandered in a straight line for a little bit. I edited papers, self-published novels, and even business emails. So much editing that I kind of forgot what it was like to write for myself.

So good morning, good afternoon, good evening—whatever it may be. Welcome to my blog where I hope to have conversations with you about things I love, things I don’t love, and things that I just need to get off of my chest. The world is so torn between lefts and rights and you get to hear very little from the people in the middle. I don’t believe in these extremes that we’re often fed, and I don’t think that you do either. Many of us want to be good people in whatever way we think that is and sometimes that means we give up what we want so that we can side with the people who we think will win—those who share many of our beliefs but maybe not all of them, or maybe not in the exact same ways.

This is not to say that this blog will be political. Even entertainment like books and movies and television, which are lenses through which I choose to view the world, invoke so many strong beliefs, arguments, disagreements, love and hatred. This is what I choose to talk about to explore how we as humans really want our world to turn out.

Read and watch along with me as I finally write for myself—and for you—and leave commentary on the world around me. And please, join in. Opinions aren’t something to fear and they aren’t right or wrong, they’re meant to be understood. So hit me with your best and your worst, and I promise to hit you with all of mine (you may want to wear a helmet, I have a lot of them).
